On June 8, 2026 I met my solo guest, Test, at 70 West Marina on the Crystal Coast for a half-day inshore trip with an official window of 7:00 to 11:00 a.m. We ended up leaving the dock around 8:00 a.m. and ran into some classic shallow-water fishing.
Our first stop was in the mangrove swamps, where we quickly broke the ice with a couple of snook — smaller, baby snook that put up just enough of a fight to get the morning going. As we worked the edges and flats I spotted a pair of redfish; we sight-fished one of them and managed a nice sight-cast hookup. Along the way we also landed a couple of ladyfish and a couple of snapper, all adding variety and action to the day.
Late in the morning we connected on the highlight: a tarpon. It was the big one everyone hopes for on an inshore trip and a great finish to our time on the water. We returned to the marina satisfied, and I want to thank Test for the time and good company—great day on the water.
